In January for example, throughout three days the "Sant Antoni" festival takes place, during which people "parade" their animals around, that are later on to be blessed. Later on in the year - in April - Carnaval takes place in Moraira, along with the traditional "entierro de la sardina" (meaning Sardine Burial). This tradition has a funny story to its name. It is held in the memory of a celebration organized by a spanish king, but however did not go as it was originally planned. Legend has it that the king ordered live fish for the celebration of carnival, but the fish died before they reached the table. So, the citizens held a funeral for the fish. Festivities are always a big surprise, and all the citizens tend to get together and share joy and happiness.

Moraira is chosen year after year by many europeans as a destination to spend their holidays, to purchase a second home or to even search for a new one.
